Dr. Steven Carter graduated from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University and has been licensed as a medical doctor since 2000. He became certified by the American Board of Radiology in 2004 after completing his residency in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Emory University Hospitals in Atlanta, GA. He served as the Chief Resident in his final year at Emory.
In 2004, he began a year-long fellowship in the Division of Musculoskeletal Radiology in the Department of Radiology at Emory before joining Raleigh Radiology Associates (RR) in 2005. Since joining RR in the Division of Musculoskeletal Imaging, Dr. Carter has had many leadership roles at RR and in his association with Rex Healthcare. While the vice-chair of the Department of Radiology at Rex from 2012 to 2016, he also served on the executive committee at Raleigh Radiology for those same years and extended that EC role until 2019. Dr. Carter was the Chief Quality Officer at RR from 2017 to 2020 and is currently on the Finance Committee and the Medical Review Committee.
Dr. Carter lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, and has medical licenses in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two college-aged children, golfing, and fishing along the NC coast.
