What motivates you in your everyday work? I am motivated to grow and refine our multi-state radiology practice every day by the needs of the patients and communities we serve, the hard work and commitment of our team members and the desire to leave the world and our local community in a better state than when I started practicing medicine 20 years ago.
What are your chief responsibilities? As president and managing partner of RaleighRadiology and its related entities I am responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with our partners, creating long-term strategic growth opportunities and oversight/guidance for our physician and non-physician team as they execute the plans to fulfill our goal of taking care of patients in the communities we serve.
Who was the most influential person in your professional life last year? My wife. She is the strongest woman I know, she is an amazing confidant, keeps me humble and focused on always doing the right thing and not the easiest thing and is incredibly understanding and talented with insights that have helped me as I have navigated complex issues.
How does your work impact the health care community? Providing high-quality subspecialty care through the processes we have developed that extend that care to rural areas is very rewarding. It is a great joy to participate as a board member with theWakeMed Foundation, which focuses on the wellness of our community and providing resources to the underserved.
What trends are emerging in health care? The increased health care needs of an aging population that is living longer, growing community coupled with a lack of health care providers, particularly in rural areas, is going to cause a great strain on our health care system.
Why did you choose health care for a career? I went into medicine to impact patients' lives with my work. I was inspired by my grandmother in India that I never met, who was an ob/gyn in the 1940s. On vacations to visit where my father grew up people still remembered and respected her 60-plus years later!
What do you like most about living in the Triangle? The Triangle is a vibrant, innovative community that has the benefits of a large booming metropolis while maintaining the feeling of community that is often only seen in smaller cities.
What do you do to relax and have fun? My passion outside of work is my family and surfing. I started surfing when I turned 40 and now never miss an opportunity; so when the swell is up you might have a hard time finding me! Golf is a close second.
