Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive medical test that uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio waves to create images of the body’s internal organs and structures. The resulting images reveal details that are invisible or hard to see when using other imaging methods, such as X-rays, ultrasound exams or CT (Computed Tomography) scans. Physicians often rely on these MRI images to accurately diagnose a variety of injuries, conditions, and diseases. Unlike other screening modalities, MRI DOES NOT use ionizing radiation to acquire and produce images for interpretation.
Regular MRIs are used for diagnostic purposes and focus on one organ or group of organs for a particular disease. This is for patients who have symptoms or are at elevated risk of disease. The Whole Body Screening MRI is an elective scan for a patient that is asymptomatic but is interested in finding out if there something internal (inside of them) that may not be causing symptoms yet but that does need to be addressed if found. Early detection is the main focus of all screening exams and this is no different.
Any patient over 18 years of age who is willing to pay. The vast majority of patients can be scanned without issue. A small percentage of patients may have to undergo more scrutiny to determine if they can safely undergo an MRI examination (i.e., pacemakers, intra-orbital metal, and other current contraindications to MRI). Once you contact us, we will have a questionnaire for you to complete. This will be reviewed with you by one of our specialized MRI technologists and if necessary, one of our Radiologists to determine if you can be safely scanned or if modifications need to be made. We have been safely scanning thousands of patients for years at Raleigh Radiology and so we are highly experienced and take your safety seriously.
